A Joint Declaration About Nagorno-Karabakh, Except HDP

A joint declaration has been published by the Deputy Chairmen of AK Party, CHP, MHP and IYI Party in the GNAT against the resolution adopted by the French Senate on the Nagorno-Karabakh dispute. The joint declaration states “We, the political parties of the Turkish Grand National Assembly, strongly condemn the resolution adopted by the French Senate on 25 November 2020 on the Nagorno-Karabakh dispute in violation of the international law, ethical codes and equity.”

The response of the GNAT against the manifestly ill-founded and unlawful resolution adopted by the French Senate on 25 November 2020 on the Nagorno-Karabakh dispute:

“We, the political party groups of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, strongly condemn the resolution adopted by the French Senate on November 25, 2020 on the Nagorno-Karabakh dispute in violation of the international law, ethical codes and equity.

Albeit the French Senate ignores, Nagorno-Karabakh is part of the Azerbaijan territory as per the resolutions No. 822, 853, 874 and 884 adopted by the United Nations Security Council in 1993. Thus, the resolution adopted by the French Senate is null and void in terms of international law. While the French President Emmanuel Macron has admitted and stated that Nagorno-Karabakh is in fact a part of the Azerbaijan territory a few days ago and Nagorno-Karabakh has not yet been recognized even by Armenia it is self-evident that the resolution adopted by the French Senate is far from the facts and realities.

The Azerbaijan territories, after 30 years of Armenian occupation, have been liberated and rejoined to the sovereignty of Azerbaijan thanks to the heroic efforts of the Azerbaijani army in the recent months. We, the Republic of Turkey, are proud of standing on Azerbaijan’s side in every moment of this justified struggle and epic victory. The lands of Azerbaijan have been reclaimed by its original owners in the result of Azerbaijani army’s operations conducted within the scope of self-defense under Article 51 of the United Nations Charter and we have no doubt that these lands will remain under the sovereignty of Azerbaijan forever.

France, despite being one of the co-chairs of the Minsk Group, has overlooked the illegal Armenian occupation for nearly thirty years, favored for the occupant Armenia in all circumstances that required her impartiality, disregarded all United Nations resolutions that recognize the rights of Azerbaijan and has adopted a hostile attitude against Turkey in the recent times and such an action taken by France is no surprise to Turkey. Such a resolution of the Senate making a call to the French government shows that the French Senate suffers a total abdication of reason and this makes us believe that respected people of France deserve to be represented by persons who are more reasonable, clever and, most importantly, respectful to the international law. The fact that the said resolution was adopted by a vast majority in the French Senate increases our concerns about the future of France.

We hope that the French government would act on the basis of commonsense and disregard this resolution that contradicts with international law, equity and the realities of the region and contains unreasonable and ill-founded claims, fabricated slanders, and ridiculous proposals. Recalling that such partisan and provocative initiatives will not bring peace, prosperity and stability to our region and our world, we hereby announce that our Parliament and our noble Nation have taken note of those who take such hostile steps against our country and our brotherly country Azerbaijan.”
